Mary E. Briedé

Mary Briedé is an accomplished litigator who brings a unique combination of experience from both private practice and the public sector.  Having served as an Assistant State Attorney in SW Florida and a Deputy District Attorney in Multnomah County for a combined seven years, Mary has honed her litigation skills and knows her way around the courtroom.  She has also represented individuals and small businesses in litigation and transactional matters.  Just as Mary’s practice has developed and evolved over the years, she understands that her clients’ needs do, as well.  Mary is dedicated and attentive and lives by the philosophy that anything worth doing is worth doing well.  Being a native of the Midwest, she prides herself on her people skills, which allow her to effectively counsel clients, negotiate on their behalf, and advocate for their legal rights.


Practice Highlights

Mary has represented individual clients and small businesses in transactional matters, including contract drafting and review involving business, employment, and services agreements. She has assisted clients in forming, reorganizing and registering business entities with the state. Mary has also represented the publicly elected Board of Directors of a large public health care system. This breadth of experience helps Mary better understand and serve her clients. She knows well that carefully listening to client needs goes a long way toward providing comprehensive business solutions and strives to provide quality advice with practical and cost-effective solutions.

Mary represents individuals and businesses in a variety of matters, including real estate and personal property disputes, commercial landlord-tenant issues, disputes arising out of employment agreements, and general contract litigation. Mary counsels and advocates for clients in all phases of litigation, from discovery and motion practice through dispute resolution or trial.

Mary has spent countless hours in the courtroom litigating motions, evidentiary hearings, and bench and jury trials and has successfully litigated breach of contract disputes, commercial debt collection matters, breach of fiduciary duty claims, and other business-related claims.

As a trial lawyer, Mary has litigated hundreds of evidentiary hearings and over forty trials to verdict. Mary has experience in all stages of litigation, from case inception through the discovery process and trial. Mary persevered in hard-fought litigation and succeeded in removing a financial guardian and defended a client against a breach of fiduciary duty claim. In addition to her considerable experience in the courtroom, she also helps clients resolve disputes through mediation or arbitration. Mary achieved a favorable result at arbitration in defending small business owners in a breach of contract dispute and ultimately negotiated a dismissal of the case.

Mary assists clients on matters involving the sale or lease of real property. She has worked with clients in negotiating a commercial lease and provided counsel involving the sale and closing of residential property. Mary’s litigation background is a useful tool in drafting, negotiating and enforcing agreements.

Business Experience

Mary spent time in the workforce in her field of child psychology and development before applying to law school. She worked with early childhood educators and navigated state licensure requirements to establish the first on-site child care facility at a family owned business.
